Horse Hay Feeder
This horse hay feeder is designed with safety first, has no sharp edges, and is made with virgin poly material in a rotational mold that forms a heavy-duty, incredibly strong feeder wall. It protects from the wind and waste, and the lip catches falling hay and returns it to the feeder. It's easily moved by tipping it on its side and rolling as shown above and the solid bottom allows you to add your own drainage holes as needed.

Horse Hay Feeder Review

This review is of the patented ground horse hay feeder from Hi-Qual called the 5-foot ground feeder. This round hay feeder is designed primarily for feeding loose hay to horses.
Material
One of the things that makes it unique is that is manufactured out of avirgin poly materialin a rotational mold that gives it extra strength and the material actually forms a chemical bond that gives it additional flexibility. This bond keeps it from cracking in cold and bad weather and because of that durability, it's one of our products that comes with athree-year warranty.
Design
The horse hay feeder uses a very unique design that looks like a bell shape and that was done for specific reasons. On a windy day, when the wind comes and blows around the feeder, it doesn't cause it to move. Another important design feature is that it follows up on the design of ourtombstone-saver horse hay feederin the fact that it is sloped inward, up, and out. As your horses are feeding and picking up the hay, any extra hits the lip and falls back into your feeder to conserve that feed for eating. The other advantage of the bell shape is that it eliminates the ability of a horse to spoon the feed up and out. The design is certainly one of the great feed-saving features.
The feeder does ship and is delivered in two pieces so some assembly is required, but it is a simple process of bolting a short series of attachments together along the connection where the feeder panels meet. It's all designed to fit together tightly for a strong finish and has a bottom that locks together before the walls are connected. So again, a simple feeder to set up that is really sturdy.
Mobility
If you're in a sandy area where you could have issues with sand colic, the lock-together solid bottom forms a barrier that will certainly help prevent that. If you're in a more wet area, it's very simple to pop a couple of drain holes through the material so all your moisture will drain out. If you have horses that like to play with their food and use feeders as toys, we've had some people actually take a post and just stake the feeder into the ground to stop it from moving. If you're in a wet area and you find that you need to move the feeder quite often, it's a very simple task to do. Just flip it up on its side and simply roll it to your new location.
