HOW TO USE A HAY TARP

Experience the utmost quality with our Bull-Flex hay tarp, constructed from a robust 7-ounce fabric treated for UV resistance and rot prevention, ensuring extended outdoor use year-round.

To enhance strength and secure the ends, we've incorporated an innovative webbing pocket with 2-inch seat-belt webbing, creating a chuck-wagon tie-down effect. The Bow-flex hay tarp offers two methods for securing it to the stack: high-strength 2-inch webbing loop triangles at 3-foot intervals and pockets along the length, allowing for pipe insertion for added tie-down strength.

Ensure the white side faces outward during use to reduce heat buildup, retain hay nutrients, minimize condensation, and maximize tarp longevity. Following these guidelines, customers have reported a life expectancy of 3 to 5 years.

The standard 52-foot length of the Bow-flex hay tarp is complemented by a variety of widths to suit your stack perfectly.

Notable features include the accordion fold for easy installation -achievable by one person - and an optional hay tarp tie-down kit for added convenience.

Unfolding and Installation

When ready to cover your bales with the tarp, lift it with a front-end loader or a set of forks, unfold it with the white side up, and secure the sides with webbing straps. Use the triangle loop to stretch the tarp, then attach Super Cinches and ropes to keep it tightly secured. Regularly check and retighten until the stack settles.

Securing the Tarp

When it comes to securing the sides of your hay tarp to the stack, the Bull Flex™ combines the best of both worlds. Featuring high-strength 2" webbing loops at 3' spacing, this tarp offers up to 300% more strength than traditional grommets. The innovative pocket sewn along the length of the tarp on both sides allows you to use a pipe for tie-down purposes, similar to the popular 17-mil Hay Tarp. The weight and strength combination is nearly 20% greater than many competitive products, especially when paired with our patented Super Cinch™ tie-down system, surpassing other grommet and loop-style hay tarps.

When using the tie-down kit, assemble by attaching short ropes to Super Cinches, creating loops. Position the 28-foot ropes around your haystack, ensuring a stable foundation. Carefully place bales in a 3-2-1 pyramid pattern, keeping the stack balanced. See the videos below for further instructions.

Tie-down kits are available for separate purchase. The standard Bull Flex™ is shipped without a tie-down system, allowing you to use your preferred tie-down system at the most competitive price.

Remember: "A tight tarp is a happy tarp!" When removing hay, fold the tarp back on top, secure it, and inspect for holes. Patch any holes with tarp repair tape, accordion fold the tarp, roll both ends to the center tab, and secure with ropes. Note the repair date and tarp condition for future reference.

We take pride in the Bow-flex Hay Tarp's quality. Follow these instructions to maximize its life, prevent spoilage, and minimize nutrient loss in your hay. With over 30 years in the business, we are committed to providing excellent customer service. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out—we're here to help.

Why Cover Your Hay with a Hay Tarp?

Protecting your hay from the elements is crucial for maintaining its quality and nutritional value. Hay is a significant investment for farmers and ranchers, and ensuring its preservation starts with proper storage. One of the most effective ways to safeguard your hay is by using a high-quality hay tarp.

Benefits of Using a Hay Tarp

Hay tarps provide reliable protection against rain, sun, wind, and snow, which can all degrade hay quality over time. By shielding your hay bales with a tarp, you prevent moisture absorption, mold growth, and nutrient loss, preserving the hay's nutritional content and palatability for your livestock.

Damage Uncovered Hay Can Experience

Leaving hay exposed to the elements can lead to significant losses. Rainwater can penetrate bales, causing mold and spoilage. Sun exposure can bleach hay, reducing its nutritional value and palatability. Wind can scatter loose hay and compromise stack integrity. These factors not only reduce the quality of feed but also increase waste and feeding costs.

Ease and Economy of Using a Hay Tarp

Using a hay tarp is straightforward and economical. Modern hay tarps are designed for easy installation and removal, often featuring reinforced edges and grommets for secure tie-downs. They are made from durable materials that withstand UV rays and weather extremes, ensuring long-term protection and cost savings by reducing hay spoilage and waste.
