Heavy-duty Cattle Guard Specs - 30 tons per axle!
The over-built design is engineered to accommodate large vehicles and equipment that aren't allowed on public roads. Mining sites, forestry, oil field equipment, etc, all require these ultra-beefy constructed cattle crossings. Each cattle grate weighs 1,580 pounds.
This is the highest capacity cattle guard design available. The DOT requirement for public roadways is only 16 tons/axle. This incredibly over-engineered crossing is built for very large, off-road vehicles that aren't allowed on public roads. These include BLM projects, oil fields, logging, etc. It is available with wings to seamlessly connect to existing fence lines and may be galvanized if desired.
Top Rails of the Cattle Guard
The design as a livestock deterrent remains the same, a physical obstacle for flat hooves and an optical depth perception that creates an uneasy visual hurdle as well. Below you can see a picture of the top of the rails used to support crossing vehicles.

Vehicles Crossing Cattle Grids
The U-80 is engineered to an impressive 30-ton per axle load for specialty vehicles and equipment.

Wings for Cattle Crossings
The simple and effective wing is designed to transfer the fence line to the base of the cattle grid to keep your animals from walking around the terminating fence post. The powder-coated steel wing is held upright by the post, which connects directly to your fencing as shown below.

As a project manager overseeing the development of a trash recycling center with daily heavy truck traffic, I needed a durable and reliable solution to keep deer and random livestock out of the facility while maintaining smooth truck traffic operations. The heavy-duty cattle guard from Barn World proved to be the perfect choice.
Installation was straightforward, thanks to its solid design and precise engineering. We installed (2) of them end-to-end at the entrance to the facility, where our trucks enter and exit daily. The guards have performed flawlessly, handling the heavy traffic load with ease and showing no signs of wear or damage, even with the constant movement of fully loaded trucks.
The guard is exceptionally well-constructed with high-quality materials that provide the strength needed for our high-traffic industrial site. It effectively serves as a livestock barrier, preventing animals from entering the facility while allowing our trucks to move freely in and out. This feature is critical in maintaining a secure and efficient operation.
A secondary benefit that we hadn't considered was that it acts as a sort of rumble strip before the trucks go back onto the public road. This helps knock the dirt off the exiting vehicles and helps keep the entrance area on the public side looking better, as it's cleaner than before.
By keeping livestock and deer out, the guards allow our trucks to operate without interruption.
I highly recommend cattle guards for any project requiring a heavy-duty livestock barrier (don't think we come close to the rated 30-ton limit) that can withstand continuous, heavy use. It's a solid investment that delivers exceptional performance and durability.
