The U-80 Rated Cattle Guard
The over-built U-80 category is an extreme and over-built design. Its special construction is reserved for the heaviest equipment out there that isn't able to travel on public roadways like the HS20-rated guards.
The U-80 cattle grid rating creates an over-built cattle guard of incredible strength. The rating creates a 30-ton-per-axle load-carrying capacity and is the most robust rating available. They are available in an 8' distance in the direction of vehicle travel and can ship with wings and pre-cast foundations if needed. They come with holes already drilled, so they may be bolted end-to-end for longer lengths measuring across the road.
Top Rails of Cattle Crossing
Although they are built for extremely heavy loads, these cattle grids rely on the same visual and physical deterrents as all of the other rated guards. The cleared-out vaulted area underneath the top rails allows cows to see past the supporting rails and to a depth lower than where they'd place their hoofs, creating an optical illusion and confusion that can alone remove the desire to cross the grid. The rails themselves offer very difficult footing as the flat hoof has trouble finding support on the smaller rails. This uncomfortable and unstable hoof support keeps livestock from walking. See the pictures below for a closer view of the top of the grid.

Heavy Duty Highway Construction

The wing is a powder-coated steel triangle held upright by a post that connects to the existing fence line. The design keeps livestock from walking around the ends where the line connects to the ends of the crossing itself. See the picture below for a completed guard-to-fence connection.
