Cattle guard options
The 14-foot cattle guard is the longest of the flat top-rail design. It can be bolted end-to-end for wider roadways, but 14' is the longest single-span available with the flat rail finish.
The flat surface makes a smoother ride for crossing vehicles while still providing an effective livestock barrier for your animals. It may be ordered with optional wings and posts and we can even deliver precast concrete footings to make installation a breeze. Drop set them in place and bolt the grid onto the pre-poured anchors. No need to pour foundations!
Top of the Cattle Grid
Cattle guards work by providing both a visual and physical deterrent to livestock. Sometimes just the visual can be such a deterrent that they won't come near crossing but if they do the physical inability to balance on the small top rails keeps them from attempting to walk over the grid. As you can see in the picture below, the spaces between the bars make it extremely difficult for a flat-hoofed animal to find any solid footing to place weight on.

Vehicles with tires can simply roll over the gaps between the supporting rails and with a flat top such as these, it's a fairly smooth ride even at higher speeds.

Below is a picture of a complete installation that includes wings that allow the grid to tie into the fence line without allowing animals to step around the connection.

Cattle guard foundations and footings

The guards are designed to mount to the 3/4" j-bolts that are pre-cast in the foundation. Click the following link to see the 14' cattle guard foundations. They are sold in pairs and require a mechanical means of unloading upon delivery.
