Coccidiosis Vaccine — Protect Your Chicks

(Important: Do NOT Use Medicated Feed)

Important: Feeding medicated feed will nullify the coccidiosis vaccine. Choose one prevention method — vaccination or medicated feed — not both.

What is coccidiosis?

Coccidiosis is caused by microscopic protozoan parasites (coccidia) commonly found in chicken yards. They can remain dormant for years and cause outbreaks when birds are introduced or when the environment becomes favorable. Heavy infections lead to serious illness and can be fatal.

Who is most at risk?

  • Most common in 4–16 week old chickens.
  • Triggered by wet litter, poor nutrition, overcrowding, or concurrent diseases.

How the vaccine helps

We vaccinate chicks at the hatchery because the vaccine is most effective at 1–3 days of age. Once properly administered, the vaccine creates long-lasting immunity and helps maintain the overall health of your flock.

Who to vaccinate Chicks at 1–3 days old
Vaccine effect Long-lasting immunity
Do NOT combine with Medicated feed containing coccidiostats
Organic growers Vaccine is compliant with NOP/USDA organic standards — verify with your vetinarian.

How to reduce the threat of coccidiosis

  1. Option 1: Have us vaccinate your chicks and do not feed medicated feed.
  2. Option 2: Skip vaccination and use a medicated feed containing a coccidiostat.

Additional notes & resources

  • Avoid medicated feed if your birds are vaccinated — it cancels the immunity.
  • Consult a chicken health guide or poultry care manual for deeper flock health education.
  • Treatment options may include Sulfadimethox (follow veterinary guidance).
